Souris Bend Trail Conditions and Other Useful Info
Souris Bend is the most challenging ride we currently offer in Manitoba. While the trail is technical and tough the views are amazing. There are steep hills to climb and descend, roller coaster sections along with open fields to cross. Often you need every minute of your ride time so there isn’t time to poke along. When the river is low enough, we cross the Souris River several times. The depth of the river depends on the amount of rainfall received. Usually, the crossing is knee deep but, on occasion, it has been belly deep.
The trail is barefoot friendly for the most part. There is very little in the way of deep sand or gravel. There might be some shale or gravel when crossing the river. Many of the large stones have been removed but the flow occasionally moves some back. Use caution when crossing and try to stay in the designated path for a safer experience.
The camping area is primitive. You need to bring your own horse containment, power, sleeping arrangements etc. The river is accessible to water horses and there is usually a pump bringing water up to base camp. There is an outhouse at the site.
